The Deep Depths event in Pokémon GO brings new Pokémon, exciting rewards, and special research tasks. This guide covers everything you need to know about the event, including how to complete the research tasks and collection challenges.

Event Overview

  • Duration: March 19 – March 24, 2025
  • New Pokémon: Nickit and its evolution Thievul debut in Pokémon GO.
  • Bonuses:
    • 1/2 Egg Hatch Distance for Eggs placed in Incubators.
    • Increased Shiny rate for Clauncher.

Field Research Tasks & Rewards

Throughout the event, PokéStops will give event-specific Field Research tasks. Here’s what you can expect:

  • Catch 5 Dark-type Pokémon – Reward: Encounter with Alolan Meowth or Carvanha (Shiny possible).
  • Catch 5 Water-type Pokémon – Reward: Encounter with Frillish (male) or Clauncher (Shiny possible).
  • Defeat 2 Team GO Rocket Grunts – Reward: Nickit encounter.
  • Hatch an Egg – Reward: Clauncher encounter (Shiny possible).

Timed Research Tasks & Rewards

There are two sets of Timed Research: one free and one paid.

Free Timed Research (2 Steps)

Step 1:

  • Catch 10 Water-type Pokémon – Clauncher encounter.
  • Catch 20 Water-type Pokémon – 2,000 XP.
  • Explore 1 km – Clauncher encounter.
  • Explore 2 km – 2,000 Stardust.
  • Spin 3 PokéStops – 5 Razz Berries.
  • Spin 5 PokéStops – 5 Ultra Balls.
  • Completion Rewards: 1 Rare Candy, 2,000 XP, and 2,000 Stardust.

Step 2:

  • Catch 10 Dark-type Pokémon – Carvanha encounter.
  • Catch 20 Dark-type Pokémon – 2,000 XP.
  • Hatch an Egg – Alolan Meowth encounter.
  • Hatch 3 Eggs – 2,000 Stardust.
  • Defeat a Team GO Rocket Grunt – 1 Max Revive.
  • Defeat 3 Team GO Rocket Grunts – 1 Mysterious Component.
  • Completion Rewards: 10 Kubfu Candy, 2,000 XP, and 2,000 Stardust.

Paid Timed Research ($2.00 Ticket)

  • Rewards: Super Incubators, a Star Piece, and encounters with Clauncher and Nickit.

Collection Challenges

1. “In the Nickit of Time” Challenge

  • Objective: Catch or evolve specific Pokémon related to Nickit.
  • Reward: Encounter with Thievul + 2,000 XP.

2. “Sea-volution” Challenge

  • Objective: Catch or evolve specific Water-type Pokémon.
  • Reward: Encounter with Clawitzer + 2,000 Stardust.
